On Tuesday November 1st, Bogopa / Food Bazaar held a grand opening for its newest location in North Bergen, New Jersey. The former Food Basics location had been closed for approximately 1 year as Bogopa acquired and renovated the store the store following A & P’s bankruptcy. The local community had missed the store, as seen during the grand opening when the entire parking lot was full, and customers were seen rolling out full shopping carts starting early in the morning. The Mayor of North Bergen Nicholas Sacco was there for the ribbon cutting, as well as a local radio station and different vendors sampling out products. Inside there were multiple aggressive promotions to support the grand opening.

The Food Bazaar chain is a Korean owned supermarket group with locations mostly throughout the 5 boroughs, and are now expanding their reach into New Jersey. The banner’s stores are unique in the fact that they service a diverse clientele – both upscale and ethnic items can be seen throughout their high-volume stores.

Food Bazaar opened 3 new stores from August to September, bringing their store count to 24 locations, and they have plans to open their 25th store in December.

With A & P gone, supermarkets like Food Bazaar are stepping up in market share. Food manufacturers would be wise to make sure Food Bazaar is part of the marketing discussion for Metro NY.
